Mladá Boleslav broke its unlucky run in Brno quite resolutely. After the three preceding defeats, the team won with a three-goal difference. Sedláček in the 42nd minute, Mendy in the 53rd minute and Rajnoch in the 86th minute were the successful scorers. The home team players were more active during the opening thirty minutes, however, the Mladá Boleslav team dominated the pitch in the last quarter of the first half. The Boleslav players started the second half with greater aggressiveness and together with their untiring attacking, they complicated the efforts of the Brno team to equalize. The decisive win was a deserved expression of the difference in playing concepts. Mladá Boleslav players were quicker, more accurate and stronger the entire second half.

The Indian summer offered ideal conditions for Sunday afternoon football. Nearly five thousand spectators saw a thrilling battle with an unflagging pace ending in Boleslav’s well-deserved win, whose offence was led by accurate shooting Táborský. Holub, Poláček and Hrdlička did not fit into Boleslav’s initial line-up and joined the game only during the second half. Apart from others, Rychlík, Kotyza and Polodna stayed on the Bohemians’ bench. The first match of the opening round of the UEFA Cup ended sadly for Mladá Boleslav.

The players of the home team certainly prepared more scoring chances but they missed all of them. Palermo punished them for scoring impotence by a goal scored by Jankovic just before the end of the match.

This happened at the moment when all supporters of Mladá Boleslav were reconciled with a goalless tie that would offer some hope for the second leg after all. But the goal conceded speaks in favour of the opponent significantly. "Palermo got big advantage," said the head-coach of Mladá Boleslav Zdeněk Ščasný sadly. "We made an important step, however, we cannot be sure of qualifying," restrained the head-coach of Palermo Stefano Colantuono optimism of Italian journalists.

Head coach Zdeněk Ščasný did not hide the fact that he had imagined his premiere on the Boleslav bench with better results. “We wanted to win at home, but we failed as we didn’t start the first or the second half well and didn’t play the way we wanted. I saw a lot of effort but also nervousness from the players,” said Ščasný after a tie with Most.

He indicated that the referees took away Mladá Boleslav’s win by denying a regular goal fifteen minutes before the end of the match. But Boleslav head coach Ščasný regretted most that his team wasted fifteen minutes in the first half and twenty to twenty-five minutes in the second half and didn’t achieve the longed-for win at the end of the match. “It’s unpleasant that we haven’t won but it’s important for me if the players are able to transfer certain sections with good playing performance in their effort for a complete match.”

The U19 European Championship will take place in the Czech Republic from July 14 to 26, 2008.

The matches of the tournament will be played on six pitches, in Mladá Boleslav, Liberec, Jablonec nad Nisou, Plzeň, Příbram and in Prague on the Viktoria Žižkov pitch. The general secretary of the ČMFS (Czech-Moravian Football Association) Rudolf Baťa has been appointed chairman of the organizational staff of U19 EURO 2008.
